Duration: 2.5 months
Year: 2023
NASA Mentor: Robert C. Trevino / Instructor: Rebeccah Pailes-Friedman
2023 Wearables Workshop Challenge
with Minwoo Park and Eric Kim
Current space travel vehicles involve many components that are made of textiles. These softgoods components become damaged during frequent use and other unpredictable variables. It is critical to maintain its performance. Past space missions have had the luxury of being able to resupply whenever necessary. Therefore, space missions have lacked a platform that supports the repair of soft goods. But, as the duration of the flight gets longer, the astronauts are no longer able to discard the damaged items but to repair them.
Objective
The kit is expected to provide the tools and directions needed for astronauts to make various softgoods repairs in space. The soft goods repair kit will have a variety of materials needed to make repairs on the site.
